Default 2014 CLS550 4Matic Burning Rubber Smell

My CLS has an ongoing issue that multiple visits to the service department at my local dealer has not fixed. After driving the car at highway speeds and parking the car in my garage, a noxious odor of burning rubber fills the garage. It dissipates after a couple of hours. The dealer’s service department has checked for leaks, replaced the oil and filter etc., but they cannot find any problem. Do you fellow CLSers have any ideas? Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum! Does the car perform normally or have you had any warning lights come on? Did the dealer pull any fault codes when you brought the car to them?

The car performs normally as far as I know. I purchased a Certified vehicle from a different Mercedes dealership a year ago, but I have only put a few hundred miles on the car since. No warning lights are on, and the dealership tells me it’s just oil burning off. However, I just took the car on a 1500 mile road trip, and the automobile still smells as bad, if not worse, once I turn the engine off. According to the Mercedes dealership here in SLC, they have tested everything. Thank you.

I returned two hours ago from a ten mile drive, back and forth, to my dentist. My car’s engine is still warm and the smell is rather obvious.......

I would take it to a Mercedes indy shop and get a proper evaluation. If oil is burning off, it has to be coming from somewhere - so that should be addressed. I would also ask them to see the fault codes, these are extremely helpful in diagnosing the issue.

The mechanic acknowledges the odor, but the computer tells them nothing. We are all at a loss.
