Default Tinting the rear lights

Since my car is black and the whole theme I've got going for it is also black... I want to tint the tail lights.

Are there any companies that have applications for the CLK?

Just paint them yourself. They are easy to remove..

-Take the back cover off, twist and remove the bulbs, remove the lens.

-Clean very well with paint thinner.. Tape up any spot you don't want to spray (usually reverse lights).

-Then use the black model car "window tint" paint from Michaels or any big art store.
Apply very light coats (this stuff is thin and runs easy). Take your time spraying!! Remember how many coats you apply and apply the exact amount to the other lens or anything
else you tint. The more coats the darker obviously.

-Then once you get the desired darkness, clear the entire lens (remove tape). Remember to take your time when painting anything, error comes when you don't allow enough time
to dry. If you are hesitant, just wait longer.

This is much more cost effective, you will spend around $10 bucks for paint/clear. This is much better than the 300+ you will spend, if you can even find anyone who makes these. Plus if you mess up or simply don't like it you can remove it with paint thinner and some scrubbing. I will be doing this shortly when I get some time and I will post some pics. -Tyler

I didn't. Maybe the guy who posted the DIY did.

I'm going to probably buy the tint film in bulk (like $50 worth) and put it on, sometime

I sold it for $7,000 (with well over $10K of upgrades)... so that was the last time I'm going to ever invest so much money into a car [:'(]

Funny thing was that I brought it to the BMW dealership and they were offering me $1,200 for it. They said that it was worth much less than regular Trade-in value, BECAUSE of all the modifications... so I just waited for about 6 months until a real enthusiast showed up and picked it up without even bargaining. Didn't test drive it or anything. Just wrote me out a check , got in and drove off.

go to your local body shop, a good one.

tell them you want to tint your taillights. They can do it for you for around 50-70 bucks. It will come out professional and glossy!

one thing I was thinking about... these lights have the backup lights integrated in them. So if I tint the whole assembly, it would affect the light output (and I need it, because my back 3 windows are at 3% tint)... but if I tint just the red part, then the white one will stand out like a sore thumb. Hmm.

Has anyone done this on a CLK? Pictures, anyone?
