Please help...advice needed!!!
Hey everyone
I'm looking to buy a 2003 clk500 coupe. Its done 66k miles with full MB history. Just had new brake pads and discs all round fitted. 2 owners from new and looks mint. My questions are:
- whats the average mpg that real owners are getting
- Servicing costs
- how much will my next service roughly be
- any major faults that tend to go wrong?
Many thanks for all your help, if anyone can answer the above questions asap that would be great as i'm seeing the car tomorrow so want to be prepared!!
thanks in advance

Hey,
Don't have a CLK 500 but can answer your questions based on my own UK 2003 270CDI:
- average mpg is 45mpg (based on reading from cars trip computer for last 50k miles). 500 CLK will obviously be much lower but don't have the experience.
- last service at MB dealers cost me roughly £400 (service B with nothing major needing done) and £200 from Bosch service centre for a Service B (excluding track rod end and 2 rear tyres which were obviously additional). servicing for your 500 may be more expensive but others can comment based on experience.
- one major fault I am aware of is the dodgy valeo radiator fitted to some of the 2003 CLKs which can grenade the transmission and be very expensive to repair. Just do a search on this forum for glycol in the transmission to read the horror stories and check the radiator on the car.
From my own experience I have done 118k miles on my car and it still runs like new. My only complaint is the manual 6 speed gearbox which is a little "clunky" but for long distance cruising it is a perfect car and the diesel returns excellent mileage. I guess there is an element of luck but if your car is half as reliable as mine then go for it.
Hope this helps.
