Default display panel / courtesy light not working

I have a 1999 CLK 320 cabriolet. I had been on a 5 hour journey, without a problem. I took a break for a cuppa, went back to the car to find that the display panel on the dashboard and the interior courtesy light when the door was opened, did not function any more. I have checked the fuses under the bonnet/boot and at the drivers side of the dashboard which are all intact. The interior lights all work on the roof switches, except for the courtesy light switch.
Can someone please help me to sort this problem out as the MOT is due next week and of course the car does not display the speedo reading, therefore I am unable to present it for the MOT
