conv top won't work
My 2000 CLK320 convertible top just stopped working. It raised and lowered a dozen times over the summer without a problem Now, I liftthe switch and the light stays constant, but nothing happens. No motor noise and no moving parts. Everything is good in the trunk and fuses are good. I noticed that I cannot raise the windows with the convertible top switch any more either. Windows go down when I unlatch the top, but won't raise without using the window switches. Any idea what is the cause?
I have an '04 CLK 500 that was a "storm damage" salvage car (my 7th MB from this firm) and the top was not retracting due to a corroding issue in the main harness located in the driver's threshold tunnel. If the main power supply in this harness does not activate the primary window cluster in the driver's door properly the top will stop retracting and not follow through it's retraction process because all the sensors are not reporting to the ECU that all is OK. My guess is that the power supply is being interupted. Check the main cluster connector to see if there is a loss of power to the driver's door. Mine is happy now that all the contacts are cleaned up and it had nothing to do with the "storm damage!" Just a bad location for moisture! Regards, Bob
