CLK55 or CLK550

Which makes more sense? A CLK55, 2005 (which means it has the updated electronics and nav) or a brand new CLK550? The CLK550 would have the stiffer springs and shocks in the sports option, decently large brakes, paddle shifters that work in auto mode and a stock naturally aspirated 380HP engine. The CLK55 would have a better suspenion (4 instead of 3 link front), but approximately the same springs and shocks, would be older on warranty (but broken in - which in my book is a good thing), paddle shifters for Manual mode only (plus true manual mode), bigger brakes and a finely tuned hand made engine that pushes itself to get 360HP e.g.. 20HP LESS.

There is no question in my mind that the 550's has a better engine. But I wonder how close the lower, stiffer springs and shocks of the sports option will take it to normal CLK55 AMG handling? I don't mind adding a thicker swaybar if necessary.

The sports suspension option on the CLK550 does make a difference, but the CLK55 is built ground up to be a more aggressive car. Then again, I keep seeing people with AMG's putting in lowering springs, twiddling their shocks so I assume there is room for improvement there. The AMG does have a mechanically more complex suspension and bigger brakes. But the brakes on the CLK550 aren't shabby.

What are people's thoughts about the CLK55 compared to the new CLK550 - especially when the latter is purchased with the upgraded suspension options?
