Default CLK won't start .... help !!

Hi,

Since to cold weather has kicked in, i am having major trouble getting my car to start. I have a 2003 CLK 270CDI Auto with 105k on the clock. They initially thought it was the glow plugs, which have now been replaced ... but still have the same problem.

Some mornings it will fire up and then dies immediately. It will turn over again, but won't fire up.

Other mornings it will just tick over, but not fire up.

It will however fire up with the aid of "Easystart"

It also fires up if the weather isn't as cold (fired up 3rd time of asking at the weekend).

With it starting some mornings when it's mild, and then not when it's cold ... does it seem reasonable that it maybe the battery?

Any advice is greatly appreciated !!!!

That sounds like a dead battery. I would stop at autoparts store to have it load tested it may need just a good charge. Every battery should be charged ones a year and they will last as expected. There used to be columb about battery maintenance in the owner's manual of every car to check the fluid level and charge it ones a year (before winter) and they would last 10-11 years with proper maintenance. Now they call them maintenance free and if you are lucky, you will get 5 to 7 years out of them, depending on brand. If the bust from external battery is helping to start your car, your battery is discharged or no longer holds capacity.
