recommended size is 19x8.5 (235/35R19) front and 19x9.5 (265/30R19) rear.
you can put 19x10 rear but you definitely need to roll the fenders.
i have specials on HREs... let me know.

19s are not too big for CLK500.
Attached pic is HRE 540R.

I was told that you have 19's similar to the one's on the 65 series (5 spoke split). Do you have a pic of those. Thanks.

Dealership told me I couldn't put larger wheels on my 2004 CLK500 without lots of work, said it would mess with the ESP. What are these guys talking about?

K1MOTORSPORT 11-17-2005 02:06 PM

RE: BIGGEST WHEELS FOR CLK500

don't listen to dealers for any advise in regards to modifications & retrofit.
see what has been done by forum members.

Glassman 11-18-2005 12:46 AM

RE: BIGGEST WHEELS FOR CLK500

I didn't listen to them.
Now, I know that differant sized wheels bolt on.
But does it effect the ESP in any way?
If so what has to be done to make it work properly.

Some people lift there rides just to stuff the largest wheels they can under it, doesnt make it right.

RE: BIGGEST WHEELS FOR CLK500

Only if the tires have a different circumference front to back. If so, at some high speed, the ESP will think a wheel has lost traction and will take corrective actions. If all are the same circumference it won't be a problem.

I'm also looking for a set of 19" for my 2004 CLK 500. What is the proper Offset???

And if anyone knows of good Carlsson deals...please let me know!! Replicas too...i'm not picky.

Alanls 11-21-2005 02:13 AM

RE: BIGGEST WHEELS FOR CLK500

Go to ebay and check under mercedes clk rims. They have about 160 various rims for sale. The offset is usually an inch with the clk. With 19" I'd get 19"x8.5" front/19"x9.5" rear.

RE: BIGGEST WHEELS FOR CLK500

I have a couple in mind either the 1/6 Evo or the 1/16.

I've checked ebay for fitment and you wouldn't believe the amount of different replies i've received regarding offset...

Some rims auction as CLK are 38m fronts and 35m rears...others are 30m fronts and 30m rears....almost every auction is different. I don't want the hassle of buying them and realizing the fenders need to be pulled or rolled. If i run the chance of not being able to find the right 19" set, i'll settle for 18's with a good lowering spring kit.

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!

if u go with 19s, you'll need to roll fenders...
18s will fit w/o rolling fenders...
let me know if you want 18s or 19s...

I just bought some Stern ST1's for my 04' CLK 500, 19 x 9.5 rear and 19 x 8.5 front 165's and 135's, guess what! The fronts won't clear the calipers without a 10mm spacer. Great! Everthing I read said they would bolt right up. I guess you can't believeeverything you read. I saw them on a CL 500 and they looked awsome. I pick up a set and they don't fit.

Oh yeah, 35mm offset front and rear.

I had to go to a 20mm offset for the fronts.

I actually think 20mm offset all around with this combo would look best.

The rear could move out 15mm more and still fit fine.

UPDATE:

So the CLK500 is sold without the wheels.

I pick up a low mileage 2004 CLK320 with not a nick on the stock wheels and decide to swap on the Sterns.

Well they fit the same as on the CLK500 but,

When I bought the wheels they were all 4 35mm offset and the spokes on the fronts hit the brake caliper, so I went with a 20mm offset up front and all was well. the rear still has some room to move out a bit and that is why I think the 20mm all around would look better even thought the front sticks out a bit more that i would like and looks a bit ghetto to me.

So the day I brought the two front 35mm offset wheels back to swap with the 20mm, one 35mm rim flops over on the concrete and now it has a few minor marks and I end up paying for one of the new 20 mm wheels that I now have. I keep the 35mm offset 19x8.5 front that I nicked and set it in the shed.
Now when I say the 35mm front didn't fit the CLK500, it bolted up if you had the wheel oriented properly so the spokes cleared the CLK500 front caliper, but it wouldn't spin.

Moving forward, I pick up the 2004 CLK320, same year cars just 500 to 320.
I pull the 35mm Stern that bolted up to the CLK500 but wouldn't spin out of the shed to see if it will fit the 320 because the 320 has a smaller caliper and I want to get rid of the ghetto offset up front.
Well there is no way the caliper is going to interfere with the wheel spokes because the 320 caliper is much smaller, but the wheel bearing cap on the front rotor sticks out too far to let the wheel slide on the the rotor unlike the 500 rotor. There is no way the 35mm offset rear would ever bolt up to the front hub either, the hub area of both the 35mm offset Stern wheels is just too thin to clear the 320's front bearing cap. But I didn't have this issue with the 500.

So the bottom line hear is that 19 x9.5 for the rears and 19 x 8.5 for the fronts do fit CLK's, my car isn't lowered at all but the caliper clearance can be an issue depending on the wheels and the hub clearance can be an issue. So ET and caliper clearance must be taken into account.

On both models I put these wheels on, the rear looks to have enough room to fit a 10" wide wheel without rubbing, but I haven't tried it. looks like you could go out 1/2" and another 1/2" inside without rubbing so 1/4" both ways should work but the offset would have to be spot on not to rub.

Did not have to roll the fenders as mentioned above. have no rubbing issues anywhere on either car.

And after I had these on the 320 for a week or so, the little lady introduced them to a nice curb! so I'm glad they were just cheap china made wheels and not a set of expensive wheels the car deserves.

Did you have ample clearance inside the fender house? Is this on a coilover or lowering springs?
