Backup lights stopped working
Hello I need an experienced mechanic/owner to help with this issue.
I have inspected my 1998 CLK320 on a lift and do not see a backup switch on the transmission. Also I have taken the wood-grained cover off the shifter from inside. I assume that this is the location for the backup light switch. I am told that this has to be replaced as a unit. Very expensive! I believe Coca Cola was spilled in the shifter box unit and the gunk is making the switch stick.
Does anyone remanufacture these units?
Can the unit be disassembled on a workbench, and cleaned with distilled water, or the switch replaced.
Anyone with experience, please help.
