Default 02' CLK 430 Wont Come out of Park any Ideas?

HI, New to the forum. I have a 2002 Clk 430 and I'm having a problem with coming out of Park. I was wondering if anyone ran into a similar problems and can give me some tips on checking it and repairing it. Thanks.

very common problem. you can get it out of park by using a pen and puttuing it in that hole under D that will relaease the shifter.. could be a bad brake light switch or a bad shifter all together.. did you spill something in there?

I didn't spill anything in the interior. I did stick a pen and it did release. Should I replace the brake light switch first being it is cheaper than the whole shifter itself?

No, I didn't spill anything around the center console, it was weird it just happened out of no where. I had parked the car when I came to work. 8 hours later this problem happened.
