Noise at ignition! A Class

Having sorted out my air mass sensor problem - I thought I would ask about an irritating noise that occurs every time I start my A class - it only lasts around 10 seconds and sound like an intermittant 'pumping' noise coming from the dash!

any ideas guys?

Are there any dash lights on when this happens? Is it a fast ticking noise?

Hi Tracy,

Have you found out what was causing the noise?

my wifes 2001 A190 80k miles started doing this last night. Basically it started when I switched on the air recyle button, so I am guessing its something to do with the pollen filter. On investigation it seems to be coming from underneath the off side wiper control arm, but I couldnt see any easy way of accessing that section without removing some of the body panels.

Help will be greatly received as we have had the car since new and there are loads of things going wrong at the moment i.e.

air mass filter issue
front brake discs warping every 6 months with no obvious solution
creaking noise when the sunroof is open
driver window creaking as though it miss aligned
paint and bodywork issues

but even with all this my wife loves the car so didnt need another issueto add to the reason to trade list.

cheers
Dave
