Stupid boy. Fiddles with things and reset to factory the "dash" language. Damn you tube not much help. Some suggesting that I should drive 250 Ks to pay the stealership to change it back.

So to recover English:
Ignition position 1
Using steering wheel buttons
left side lower button until basic odometer is displayed
next press is telephone gobbledygook
next press trip computer numbers for distance time speed and fuel use
next press is reset of things that are scrolled with the up or down arrows left handle bar and my W169 with a Vin number pointing to JP had only English and Japanese, Select to highlight the desired option with the right handle bar + and - buttons
Leave once you have made the choice by left handle bar lower lower button again.
