1999 A 160 starter motor
My starter takes about 3-5 times to engage and start the car. Usually it
makes a whining sound before, so looks like I will need a starter motor. Can anyone tell me where to purchase one that can be shipped to me in the USA? Thank you. Charles. ch@tourismresorts.com

RE: 1999 A 160 starter motor
-If you wont spent too much money on getting a new starter, this is a typical fault on the kuggwheel at the end of the starter (notting wrong with the starter itself- only a small part of it). I have repaired this myself once, but on an differt car. (but the "same s..., different wrapping"). It is simply to oil up this engageing kuggwheel.
It sound like the problem here is to get access to the starter, not to repair it...
Anyway,if you're not too "handy", it's mightbe the best to bring it into the garrage for repair...
(PS: I'm from Norway, the garrage is VERY expencive, and they are not too clever "-bad and expencive", so I'm forced to do repair on my own car- wouldn't dare to let them doo anything with the suspencion and brakes!)

Bought a "used" starter from Breakeryard in London and flew it to Missouri, USA. Local Merc dealer installed it with help and tips from service man at Merc dealer in New Zealand. They replaced the starter, it worked a few days,
now it is doing the same thing: not starting and driving me crazy if I think about it. No one here has any experience with these cars here. I will pass along your kuggwheel idea to them. Hopefully maybe someone else sees this and has had the same problem. Thanks again. charles
