I have a 2005 A200, with a knocking noise from the auto transmission oil pump, only on cold starts, does anyone else have this problem?
Mercedes say that all A200's do it, but I havent struck anyone else yet.

 

that depends on how loud the noise is.

any mechanical damage will really give you a teeth grinding noise.

oil pump cannot make knocking noise because it's rotary.

possibly it's the roller bearing of the torque converter or clutch K1.

 

Thanks for that sleepwalker.but not mechanical, no grinding.
According to Merc it's oil running back into the trans, and the knocking is the air popping.
But it is now more when I turn the car off, think I'll have to sell the damn thing.

 

Actually I heard it on Cazzles on Sat mornig, did few on starting and I turned it off with one more?
Hmmm. more like a popping noise.

Didnt do it again.

If it is an issue more will report to MB and warrnty will cover it.
