Default Air Mass Sensor problem.

Hi everyone. Im new to this forum and need some help! My A Class started stalling at stop last year but this dissapeared after its routine service....but problem has now resurfaced ut much worse. I took it to alocal garage (not mecedes)and on theircomputer it came up as an'air mass sensor' problem. Numerous part shops have told me it can only be purchased from MBs as its an anti teft part- MBs told me it is integrated with the engine managment unit in my A class and cannot be bought seperately, and also can only be'tuned' in to the engine by them - the part alone is £900!!! How much they will charge to fit god knows.
Is there no other way to address an air mass sensor problem? Im broke!!

Default RE: Air Mass Sensor problem.

Hi

I had the same problem. I had the spark plugs changed and the air filter etc. It turned out to be the air mass sensor. I took it to a local garage who kindly removed the part for £40 (this included refitting it too) and then sent it off to a company for refurbishing.

It came back and the car runs like a dream. It now has better fuel consumption and slightly more umph.

A chap refurbs them for £250. He runs a ledgit business and QA's all his work.

His details are:

The downside was I was without the car for a good week or so.

Hope it helps

Default RE: Air Mass Sensor problem.

Hi Tracy,
I had a similar problem with my A190. The MAF sensor on my car [built early 2002] is located on the front of thevertical section of the air intake after the air filter, it looks up your nostrils when you open the bonnet. The MAF sensor has a clip on connector and the sensor itself clips into the air intake, you can have it in your hand in 10 seconds. I spray mine with carby cleaner every few months whether it needs it or not. Part number is 0005422818. The car is Australian.
cheers, Wassie.
