YIKES!...my '05 C230K just ate it's supercharger!
At 65k miles, my C230K started making a loud engine noise upon starting and went away after a minute or two of driving. Car at dealership now and they are replacing the supercharger, which is shot. Thank GOD I had the foresight to buy the extended warranty to 100k miles. I was burned on my last car, a BMW 3-series, and said I'd never own another car without an extended warranty, due to the fact that I drive a lot and rack up more miles than most people typically do. They have had the car in the shop for three days working on it. Imagine the bill without the warranty. I usually don't buy extended warranties for things, but now I am convinced once again.
Oh, by the way, they gave me a 2006 230 to drive with the V-6 and 7-speed transmission. I have some thoughts on this car which I will share shortly. []

Got the car back today.......dealer said the cost (without my extended warranty) would have been just over three thousand dollars.
My total cost=0. Warranty just paid for itself and then some.

Even though the dealership said it was "fairly rare" that the supercharger would go South as mine did, they just happened to have all the parts in stock I come to find out. Hmmmmmm. Perhaps they've seen this before a few times??? After driving the newer six cyl. car they loaned me, I have to be honest and tell you the V6 is smoother and quieter and seems to be (in my opinion) a better choice with the seven speed transmission. First and second gear are nice in that thing. Half throttle acceleration is just as good as the C230K. My car sounds like a paper shredder compared to the V6! That's inside AND outside the car. Oh, by the way, the MB extended warranty is transferrable to the next private owner, but no good if you trade the car in, according to them.

I can tell you that my '05 C230K gets about 26 in the city and 30 on the highway, but at a steady 65 mph, on a level road, not passing anybody, it has
reached a maximum of 33.5 mpg. That was the best highway mileage in 70K miles. Of course, depends on several other things as well. But you should be able to get 30mpg highway in any C230K if you want to. The 2006 C230 that I drove as a loaner while they were working on my car had MB's smallest V6 in it. So, I had a pretty good equal to compare it to. I drove it about 500 miles and it got about 24 in the city and about 30 on the highway just driving normally. I wasn't trying to get the best mileage, just commuting back and forth with it. The acceleration comparison is pretty much the same, but the V6 had the 7-speed transmission, which gave it a "nicer" take-off from the stoplight in first and second gear. Smoother power and quieter power. But about the same power. I'd say the V6 wins in the torque department as far as how it feels driving it.......regardless of what the figures are on paper.....you have to drive one yourself and see how you like it. I myself like highway driving with the V6 and the 7-speed better. Passes easier as it kicks down quickly and smoothly. You don't hear that "winding" noise of the engine like the C230K has. But, again, two different engines entirely......some like one, some like the other. As a hot rodder myself for years, I leaned toward the supercharged 230, but I think if I had to do it again for just a daily driver, I might go with the V6. Just my opinion. Hope this helps.

helps great . thanks, but i was also looking at the pre-2006 V6 models of the C230, like 03-04-05 models of the C240 with V6 engine, does it compare same u think to the 2006 V6 C230 engine?

I'm really not familiar with those and don't want to say too much about something I haven't actually driven. Sorry.
Remember, the 7 speed tranny has something to do with the way the car "drives" for sure. At least I noticed the difference.
