What is a lambda sensor? where is it located on a '99 C280?

I heard the lambda sensor could be the problem of many starting problems on a c280. Also can cause hesitation, poor idling and so much more.
Where is the lambda sensor located? is it the same thing as oxygen sensor?
your help will help many others.
thanks:)

Benz C280,

i have not heard of a lamda sensor, they may be talking about an Air Mass Meter / Mass Airflow Sensor this can make a Benz do all kind of goofy things.
an O2 Sensor will not do all these goofy things anyway.

Thanks

Yes, there is such a thing as a lambda sensor, or an EGO.

<snip>The exhaust gas oxygen sensor (EGO or O2), or lambda sensor, is the key sensor in the engine fuel control feedback loop. The computer uses the O2 sensor’s input to balance the fuel mixture, leaning the mixture when the sensor reads rich and enriching the mixture when the sensor reads lean.<snip>
