My car is getting really poor gas mileage...only about 11 or 12km/litre or 26 miles/gal. in the city (is that normal?)

my friend suggested that I get a tune-up...what parts get changed in the tune-up for this car?

My 97 C280 sport gets about 26 mpg on the highway, so it sounds like you are doing good. The manual rates it at 20 city and 27 hwy. I havent had to tune it up yet so no help there.

 

My 96 c280 is getting 22-23mpg with almost exactly 50-50 hwy/city, so that's prob 20 city 25 hwy. It has 117k miles on it. Sounds like your's getting pretty normal mpg....but if not and if there's anyone is doing any DIY tuneup, let us know!

 

You must be comparing it to hybrids! Most brand new, light weight 4 bangers would be happy to see 26mpg city.

Your car is a 6 cyc and weights about 1542 Kilograms (3400 lbs). If you're really getting 26mpg city (which I doubt) you should count your lucky stars.

I didn't say he was lieing, I said I doubted his figures. Wrong is not deceitful (unless you're a Democrat, i.e. Bush lied)

How do I know he's not getting that mpg city? It's called science, noodle brain. The I6 (engine 104) just isn't that efficient no matter how you drive.

Suggested reason for bad figures (not including lieing)
Mpg cannot be established on one fill. It must be averaged over 5-10 fills. MPG cannot be obtained by looking at the fuel guage.
