Default Tried DIY oil change '17 C300, failed.

Wanted to do my first oil change on the coupe, but had trouble unhooking the air intake and didn't want to break anything, so I wound up with my indy tech doing the job. Too embarrassed to ask him to show me how to do it as it would mean taking business away from him. Anyway, I think I figured out how to depress the top clip of the forward part of the intake, but I wasn't sure were the second clip was located. I think it was at the bottom of the intake, but then couldn't figure out how to depress it??? And, while we are at it, would appreciate further direction on how to unclip/depress and where the other intake clips are??? Once it get these bits and pieces off, I do know how to vac out the oil and replace the filter. Thanks for you help.

Hello and welcome to the forum! I would recommend checking out some youtube to get comfortable with the procedure. Just type in 'W205 oil change' - there should be plenty to reference. Also, let's see some photos of the new ride!

I have posted this question on several forums and it has been viewed over 200 times, and yet no one has been able for give me an answer. Really can't believe that no one knows how to do this. I have also, Googled the hell out of Google, and have not found an answer. I am quite familiar with doing my own oil/filter changes (did them for 8 years with my 325 and Z4), but before going forward with the C300, my first (and probably only problem) is how to disconnect the forward part of the air intake. There is a very good video on doing the oil/filter change, but it started off with the intake already disconnect.

I believe there are two clips at the bottom of the intake, but I don't want to break them while trying to undo them. Thus, I'd like to know exactly how to do them.

EDIT: Over 400 views with no solution???

I completely understand what you're saying and will see about getting you a definitive answer. My guess is that since it's a 2017 model, people are taking theirs to the dealer to do this under their maintenance plan; thus no DIYs on the procedure.

Makes sense, but when the dealership charges $300+ for Service A (an oil/filter change,) there certainly have to be some sane owners of a 2017 who do their own changes. Using a vacuum pump, 7.5 qts. quality oil and filter only cost $50-60...better in my pocket than the stealerships, eh?

Wow! Mercedes doesn't offer free maintenance for x number of miles on their new automobiles?

No, not for oil/filter changes. And, BTW, because they charge so much for a Sevice A (which also includes filling levels and checking the usual crap,) indys are able to charge between $100-150 for that service.

Wow, that is an surprise. I was sure they do, it's pretty basic procedure to get free maintenance. Last time my buddy from DSRLeasing was taking his new MB, back in 2015 he told me it's free, maybe something did change.

$100-150 for an oil change doesn't seem too out of line. Figuring what 8 quarts of Mobil One sells for at an Indy. Putting the car on a lift and removing the "splash plates", making sure the car is clean after reinstalling the drain plug and reinstalling the "splash plates".

I've got a car dealer that will change my oil for $15.00 if I supply the oil and filter. No that's a deal.

I've tried doing it myself and without a lift just couldn't do it.

Just my $.02 worth

The oil change on my 2L turbo is easy. No need to put car on a lift. Remove oil with vacupump from the dipstick tube. Oil filter is is on the top of the engine and easy to change. 5 qt jugs of Mobil 1, or any good MB approved synthetic oil costs about $25 at Walmart. Filter is around $12. So, oil (7 qts)/filter should cost about $50 DIY and maybe around 15 minutes of time. Only problem that I have is how to properly remove the air-intake to get to the filter. BTW, $15 is a good price from your indy...ask him if he used a vacupump.
