Transmission problems

Have a 1999 C230 Kompressor, 185,000 miles. Yesterday put transmission in reverse and would not go. Put transmission in drive and would not go. Put transmission in park and shut off car. Restarted car and put in drive car would go but stuck in low gear would not upshift. Stopped and shut off car. Started car and put in drive and car drove normal. I now don't trust it not to quit again. Any ideas?
