Starting Problems C280
Some older cars had a starter immobiliser relay as part of the alarm system and this used to give the type of problem you have described. I am not sure if yours has one.
If you could trace the wire going from the ignition key to the starter, it is diverted into this relay unit and the output from here then goes to the starter solenoid.
I hope this helps.

Car was towed again to new mercedes mech. He called last night and said that the new starter that was installed shorted out the wiring to the control module and fried it.
Any one tell me if that makes sense. Guess he said, when they removed motor mount to get starter out they must of shorted the wires. I have no idea..I am totally lost. Do not even want to think what the new cost will be.
Waiting for new outcome.....

Have had car back now for 3 weeks and it is still running with no apparent problems. Seems they had to change out the control module which they said was burned up. Either way glad that the car is backa nd running. Thank you for all the help gents.
