Soft Brake Pedal at the beginning of braking

Soft Brake Pedal at the beginning of braking
Hi all, I just bought a 2003 C320 couple of days ago. The pedal has a substantial amount of play to it. I can depress it almost a good inch and a half before I feel any resistance from the brakes. But the brakes work great at stopping if it is depressed deeper. It is engaged late.
People may suggest bleeding because of air in fluid. However I don't think the problem is the same in that case I don't feel resistance if I depress the pedal slowly, and will feel it if depress it quickly. In other words, the resistance is about the speed you depress the pedal. And if you keep the position, you'll feel the resistance go away. My situation is different, if I depress it deep enough, the resistance preserves. I just have to go that deep to have it and want to have it engaged sooner.
Does someone have some idea about this? Any input is appreciated.

They do have a lil play in them. have you compared it to another C-class yet? You might want to bleed them anyways depending on how long its been since you last changed the brake fluid. Is the fluid correct?
