Was told by a mechanic that my "Check Engine" light is on because the O2 sensors need to be replaced.

I've seen pricing for these that is much better than any dealership/mechanic can offer, the question is - can they be installed without taking the car apart? Is this a DIY fix to install all 4 sensors, or is it best to have it done by a mechanic? If there is a DIY fix, can someone post detailed install notes.

Also - I have seen repair manuals advertised for MB cars, are they a good resource to handle fixes like this and others?

I have a 99 C280 and one of the O2 sensors replaced, (under starmark warranty, but it is a DIY job, if you have a jack and jack stands, and a O2 wrench, which are not all the same. We will need to get he sensor and go to an auto parts store to fit the correct socket or wrench for the application. Dealers usually won't install non Mercedes parts, a private shop will, they usually charge you a higher labor rate for bring it yourself parts.

There is no repair manual available is the USA for our cars, but I understand there available in the UK.

 

goto the starmark website and/or call 1-800-for-merc and they can hook you up w/a cd mtc manual for just over $100 (us). u can also get a 1 day manual ($18us) and a 1 month or 1 yr ($3600), none of which are easy to navigate or use without an obd2 that reads streaming data. i have heard that bentley manuals (EU) are good but who needs them with this site!
