Problem with gauges on 94 C280

Hi, since i bought this car i have had a problem with the tachometer and the speedometer. When i start up the car and begin to drive, ususally both gauges dont work, they just stay at zero. After the car warms up they spring up all of a sudden. Usually the tach first then the speedometer, but not always. It seems to be worse during the winter, but the problems is almost always there. Sometimes its even so bad that even after driving for a while, if i come to a stop the speedometer will just stay at zero and only jump up when i get to about 20mph. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

I have the same problem on a 1995 C280. But it mainly is confined to my speedometer. I had this taken in a couple time to see if anyone could figure it out. All they suggested was to replace the cluster. It is strange, if I let the speedometer get to 0 it will be stuck there for a while and then jump to correct speed in a little bit - for me it's usually around 40mph.

i beleive this problem is an easy fix. what can happen is that a resin/sticky product can build up on the resting pin for both of these, hang on il do a search for you and find out pictures and all

here is a link on how to take the cluster out.
then take it apart. genetly clean the resting pins with alcahol and it should be alrite.
Dont turn the key on during any of this, and be careful not to snap off the speedo or anything silly be gentle.

MB even sell these little plastic condom things to go over the pins but i beleive you can only buy these in the uk.
godluck and this should fix your problem of sticking guages!

heres another link to the problem elswere. but use the link i gave you for dash/cluster removal

C280 is right. There was a bulletin on this problem many years ago, and C280's suggestion should work.
