Parking-brake warning light
The warning light shows (and the alarm sounds!) when I release my parking-brake in my C-Class Coupe C220 CDI. I have to apply and release it several times before the light dissapears. The break does seem to disengage though so guess the issue I have is related to a sensor. Any common problems here or am I isolated? Is there an easy adjustment or a big job?

See if the pedal is comming up all the way. I have seen the spring get weak on the pedal. Just pull the release and pull up un the pedal with you hand or foot. If the light goes out you know you have a weak return spring. If that is not it make sure the switch is seated all the way. It is on the pedal assembly. You may have to lower the under dash panel to see it.

Cheers! It does go off when you pull the pedal up with your toe. Is is a new spring then?

I doubt you can get the spring. Maybe you can find a used pedal assembly.

Similar to my experience.
This was driving me daft, so lifted up rear seat squab, removed rectangular black steel plate, cleaned out the grot, lubricated the `bowden' cables and applied/released footbrake a dozen times or so to distribute oil. All now well. Read your `Haynes' manual and don't pay labour charges to your dealer!
This will work! Phil. |
