Hey guys.... Last week I bought a 2003 c230 and it has become my favorite toy. My wife thinks i'm nuts and going through a second childhood. I am really happy that I found this forum.

I am having a problem with the rear trunk lock. Seems that I am unable to unlock the "lock" with the keyless unit. The doors and gas tank unlock but the trunk remains locked. I can access truck from the rear seat and push the "electric" button to open the trunk.

Any ideas would be appreciated on how to address this problem.

I assume it is like mine (98) and it is locked for valet parking. There is a key inside the key assembly itself that you can push out and use to unlock your trunk. You put it in the keyhole of the trunklid, like any normal key, and turn half a turn clockwise or counter cw I am not sure. Try it again with the keyless, the trunk lid button or the the inside button and it should work. If you leave your expensive golf set in the trunk and you go out to those fancy restaurants ;) , turn it back the way it was and nobody will be able to get in the trunk without that part of the key (which you take off the keyless and keep in your pocket). Et VoilĂ*.

No trunk key on my model. Appears that the electric key ( two buttons, LOCK and UNLOCK) operated everything. When you hit UNLOCK, the doors/gas door/trunk are supposed to UNLOCK. In my case only the passenger doors and gas door unlock. Trunk mechanism stays LOCKED. I can go into the trunk from thr rear seat, push the electric button and the trunk opens.

On several posts elsewhere on this site, there is mention of a vacuum system. Anyone have a diagram of the 2003 C230 vacuum line system and the locking mechanism????

Thanks,

Nope. The key has two buttons, LOCK and UNLOCK. I ordered two new keys from the dealer last week. The dealer expects to have the keys sometime this week.

Come to think of it, the parts guy mumbled something about "an old style key" when he took the order for the new keys.

One, two button key was given to me when I bought the car. Since I needed to have a spare key in two different locations, I ordered two additional keys.

Any ideas?

Ok.... so its not a trunk lid, its a rear hatch back. The hatchback has no key and the handle is always in the "locked" position.

Any idea as to how to unlock the hatchback other than lowering the rear seat and pressing the emergency button?

How about a schematic of the hatchback locking device? I guess thats the best place to start, unless you have a better idea.

there's no schematic.

all i know is that you can unlock the tail gate using the key, and it will work normally with locking system after that.

try to expirement more.
