Hey i have a 1997 C280 with 18"x8.5" rims and i want to lower my car. I can't lower it too much because i live on a hill and i have to able to get from hill to flat land without getting stuck =P so I'm thinking lowering like an inch or so. But do you have any suggestions for what suspension to get or how low to go? if you have any pictures of slightly lowered c classes that would be awesome.

This should really help u lower the car: get the 13" vw wheels with low-profile tires.

the question wasnt "should i get 13s to lower my car" it was i have 18s and want to lower it.
There are many companies that sell lowering kits for c classes, h&r etc and they sell lowering springs and lowering cup kits (cups are the rubber pads above the spring) smaller cups will lower your car slightly so these could be an option.
go into a few perfomrance shops say what you just said above and get some quotes and then come back here and tell us the quotes and well make sure u dont get ripped off.

for example...if u have a C43, and want it to slow down, i would advise you to put triangular wheels on.

on the same token...u want to lower the car, i advise u to have smaller wheels. not fair? me monkey man must be crazy.

Let all the air out of the tires. That will lower it too. Don't worry about the tire's RPM. It'll work!

i've already gotten one quote when i got my wheels installed and the guy said something like 250 for springs and 150 for labor. I have a friend who does work on cars for a hobby so the labor isnt really a problem for me, but just in case, what is a fair price?

 

That sounds about right. Since the labor will be about the same, you might want to consider doing the shocks at the same time.
I think a nice set up would be Eibach Pro-Kit springs with Sachs shocks. If you can find the Eibach Pro-System, they will have Sachs shocks. They will lower the car approx. 1.2 inches.

BTW, If you have never owned a lowered car before, be prepared for a stiff ride which may take some getting used to. I onced lowered a car and realized I'd made a mistake. It looked great, but as a daily driver, I didn't like it. I put the oems back on.

 

when i got the rims, i felt a difference in the smoothness of the ride. would lowering it be the same difference or more of a change? what exactly do you mean by a stiff ride?

 

it depends on the combo you get. if you just get lowering springs and keep the standard shocks the ride should still be similar smoothness.
Just start out with that 250 springs and leave the standard shocks and it should work out good, the price seems reasonable to.
and getting the oem springs out ant easy.
