Kind of cold air intake ('05 c-230k sport sedan)

That's basically what I want to do. I know it doesn't add much power, if any, but I am interested in the possibility of slightly higher mpg, and the awesome sound it would make.

My question is, will attaching an aluminium tube where the stock filter connects, and using the setup drawn in the final picture effect the angle that the air hits the MAF? Like I said, performance isn't really what I'm concerned about, I just want to hear the atmosphere getting sucked into my car, and If I can pull any positive effect out of that relating to my gas mileage(Yes, I am aware that a change, if any, would be slight), it's a double win.

So, would this setup effect my MAF? Has anyone tried anything similar/results? Is there anything else I should be worried about? Any input is greatly appreciated.

The drawings aren't very good, and they aren't really to scale, more of just a concept sketch. I planned on using a large, high flow conical filter to reduce restriction, but I had not taken into account the radiator. Now I realize that it wouldn't be very effective next to something that...well, radiates heat.

Perhaps I could fit a high flow filter where the stock one is for some benefit, and go elsewhere for further improvement.
Thank you for pointing out the flaws in my design, and saving me time and money.
