RE: Just got a c280 4matic, got a quick Q!
try cornering on vacant corners giving more acceleration as soon as you feel that road grip is about to slip. you done it once, and you will feel the next ones fun and easy.

I'm defintely going to try that tommorrow, despite the fact that it does sound pretty reckless and dangerous. So what does it take for the car to flip on a turn if this "over-steer" will save it from flipping? I wish I can just find an area with a flat, empty surface where I can just play with my car. Monday is day one to bring the car to the office which means its going to be used for its "Luxury, Elegance and Professionalism". When friday comes, I'm just gonna go all out. I can't say it enough, I love this car........
I wish I can drive the CL 55 AMG and see how that thing rips the roads. |

The most common cost of accidents on performance cars is drivers over-steer. Good car on dry pavement can get almost 1G side force. THAT'S A LOT. Make sure your coffee cup is empty.
Take some practice to fully feel the car. Years ago, living in colder climate, I was using icy parking lots for practice. Lot of fun at the time and payed off few time in real life driving. |

i am too scared to do it on icy surface. i cannot control the car at all...steering, speed and brakes.
more easy to practice on rough road (no asphalt or cement). |
RE: Just got a c280 4matic, got a quick Q!
rough road ??!!!
That was my first cornering practice experience. In the fall I took the car on grass field. The side-forces during side-skiding were so big, that road roughness took the tire off the rim. It is no fun changing completely flat tire in the mud. Waited for ice later on. In the city, where I was growing up fire engine was spraying water on abounded airstrip. Couple of traffic cones made great place for fun. Counter-reacting to side-skidding has to be practiced till it becomes "natural reaction". You have to turn the wheels opposite direction, that you want to go. The time you have to do it is about 1/4 sec, or you already lost it. Not much time to think. Now general rules about taking the corners is, that the speed of entering is secondary issue. It is the speed you are coming out, that plays big role. So on the corner you don't know, it is better to slow down even below necessary speed and accelerate later on. When you enter with too high speed and have to brake on the turn, not only you are loosing lot of time, but putting yourself in bigger danger as well. |
