High pitch noise in steering column

High pitch noise in steering column
My 2000 C230 (113 K) recently begin a making high pitch noise in the steering column. The noise will go away when the steering wheel is turned a 1/2 inch back and forth. This high pitch noise occurs when the car is moving or not. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
