My C230 97 MY has fuel trim code 0170. I am wondering if anyone experienced this code before on C230, and what is the root cause for that code? Any info which may lead to resolve the code 0170 in my car will be much appreciated!

The knowledge you have on the Mercedes really amazes me.
In the process of diagnosing the trouble code 0170 on my C230, I checked fuel pressure at rail. It reads 330 Kpa at idle. I’d like to know if this is within specification or not. Also, through this forum, I found most 0170 code were resolved by replacing the MAF sensor. What is your experience on that? I will very appreciate if you can give me some assistance. Thanks!

 

pressure is normal.

only the technician who have direct access in checking the car can decide about the airmass sensor. there are tell tale signs if it is not working perfectly anymore...even if the check engine light doesn't show.

however, you may try installing a good one for testing purpose only.

 

Based on all the information I gathered from this forum regarding P0170 code, I decided to start the trouble shooting from the MAF sensor. I removed the sensor from the induction pipe and carefully spread the sensor with cleaning solvent (Made by Miller-Stephenson) which we normally use to clean the electronics device. It has been more than a week by now the code never comes back again (otherwise it would turn back on within a couple hours of drive after I clear the code). I believe the engine diagnostic calibration for MAF sensor limit for C230 was set to tight. As the sensor collected more dust, the shifted value coming out the sensor tends to trigger the diagnostic limit easily. I am so happy about what I did otherwise I would have to pay $380 for a new sensor.

I have contacted the local dealer for making duplicate key. But did not get proper response.

Is it possible to make direclty the key from the Mercedes Germany?
Or anyone pls. guide me with the procedure.

you mean you only need a mechanical key?

germany might not entertain you because there is a dealer in your area. you got to go to the dealer, bring proper identification, proof of ownership of the car, and car details.

they cannot make duplicates. you must order additional key.

if you cannot get proper response, write directly to germany and tell them your woes.

It is electronic key (coming with Infrared, central locking etc). I can provide the Chasis number and registration number.

All the necessary documents are available with me. Do you know how much is the cost of this key??

My dealer here is asking 500usd for 1 key. pls. do you have any suggestion?

secondly I have another problem . yesterday I have sent my car to the mechanic as I was not able to open my car boot by manual key.

I don't know what he did and now I can not lock the car by electronic key but now manual key is working for boot. Whenever I press
the open button on my electronic key only light flashes but no activities on door locks.

Even I have tried to lock from the button inside the car but no activity. Can you help me with your experience.
