Heavy modifications on C200K (W204) Any thoughts?

Hey guys,

I'm really interested in heavily modifying my 2008 C200K (M271 engine) to 500 bhp (Kleemann only offers 230 bhp with its K2 kit, and I'm not really pleased with that figure). The heavy mods include a stroker kit (2.0L), strengthening the internals, possibly twin turbos, etc. but I'm really open to any ideas as long as it hits the 500bhp margin. I'm also thinking of having the tranny software looked at, because everytime I try to upshift near the redline (6200rpm), it upshifts twice into 3rd gear from 1st. MB Malaysia says its some sort of timing issue that they can't solve, so any improvements/thoughts on that would be greatly appreciated. I wont' get into the cosmetic issues in detail but I would really like to have the C63 AMG's sports seat and steering wheel fitted into the car and work my way from there on.

I currently drive the car in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia but I'm good with shipping the car to Australia or even driving it to Singapore should the parts be available there. I would really appreciate it if anyone could lead me in the right direction. Thank you very much.

P.S. Would it be better (i.e more possible to hit the 500 bhp mark) to trade in the C200K for the C250 CGI and then modify the car?

Best regards,

Unfortunately I live in Malaysia where the price of a C200K is equal to the price of a C63 AMG in the US, which is precisely why I chose to modify the C200K. If 500 bhp is out of the question, what would you say would be the max bhp I could squeeze out of the engine with heavy mods?

500 bhp is not out of the question with a 2.0L, but it would require heavy modifications and $$$. You also have to realize what you would end up with. To create that kind of power out of an engine with that small of displacement, reliability will be a huge issue. You won't have an every day driver. Its all a question of what you want. Porsche was achieving 227hp/liter on a 2.2 in 1974, its definitely possible.

Turbo's got to be awefully small if you're going to put 2 in a 2 liter engine! As ForcedInduction said, if (big if) you do get 500hp out of it, the short time the engine will live won't be worth the money spent on it, unless you take the MB engine out and drop an Offenhauser engine in it. You won't have to worry about a blown head gasket as the head and the block is one piece and all the pistons are installed from the bottom........

To begbpg: So if the car was meant to be an everyday drive, what sort of power range would you recommend? 300bhp or so?

To Icebreaker: I'm not really keen on engine swaps, as there are heaps of stuff that goes along with it. Is 300bhp out of the question for the M271?

I guess 300 hp isn't out of the question as a Lancer Evo is already over 300 on a 2 liter engine, but as ForcedInduction mentioned it won't be livable for everyday street driving. Couple of things I've thought about doing if I had a lot of time is to change pistons and camshaft. I haven't seriously thought of it so I haven't done any research as to what is available on the market. I don't know about Malaysia but in Thailand you could get your camshaft cut to any profile you want so it gives you more lift and longer duration. With today's technology I think 8.5:1 compression is a wee bit low, 10:1 should be doable.
