Harsh downshifting during braking
I searched but could not find a topic on this.
Is this normal for mercedes automatics (or more specifically C230Ks)?
During normal stops, say up to a stoplight, the engine will downshift while you are braking.
You really feel it pulling the car at each shift making every stop jerky and annoying.
I've never experianced this on any other automatic.
So is this normal?

Yes, it's normal. I understand that even newer MB transmissions have hard downships when decelerating at at slow speed.
I found after a transmission fluid change (when I changed MB's "fluid for life"-yea, right) the hard downships are far fewer and all shifts are better.
I have similar problem with C180. Also similar reaction when kickdown from 4th to 3rd
Try ECU reset
1. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.
2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
4. Wait at least four minutes for ECU to reset
