Getting only half of oil out w/ Mityvac/Topsider. You too?
I have used my Mityvac for removing oil through the dipstick tube for several cars with great success, but when I tried it on a '99 C230K only about half of the oil came out. I could only remove only about 3.5 qts (it was about a quart low when I started the oil change).
Manual says it hold ~8.5 qts.
I tried probing the "bottom" of engine with the tubing and even rotated it 360 degrees several times to see if any curvature of the tubing was at fault, but no more oil came out. I tried to drain the rest by the drain bolt, but the bolt is stuck and is at the verge of stripping the points off of the hex shape (using a 13 mm socket). So I had to add oil in order to use the car.
I have heard that engines on some cars have a plate or some other obstacle that gets in the way of tubing and prevents it from reaching the bottom of the pan.
Does the '99 C230 have this obstacle in its engine? Have others experienced this problem? Thanks.
