Default Door panel removal

Greetings All. I have a 2001 C240. The driver's side door lock will not lock. When it is activated it just stutters and remains unlocked. I believe the locking mechanism hassomething loose. I would appreciate any instructions on the removal of the door panel and any suggestions you may have. Thanks, Bill

Just a note, taking off the door skin is relatively easy, But this is only half of the battle (the easier half). your problem sounds like one i had.where the problem is in the door lock mechanism a sensormalfunction. the cure a new lock assembly cost approx $175. installation involves removal of door skin, drilling rivets to side air bag and left window track, swing left window track asside to remove and install lock assy. This takes experience a lot of patience, attention to detail combined with excellent trouble shooting skills. It took me aprox 5 hours. noing what i now know probably 2-3 hrs. I believe the dealer wanted $500. After doing it I think it is worth spending themoney. Good luck

Thank you Special K. It was realatively easy to remove the door skin after the instructions. I then spent about 1/2 hour trying to get at the locking mechanism before I decided I could really destroy something here. That's when I decided it's time to make a trip to the dealership. After your advice I think I will be glad I did. I hate not fixing things I know I can do but I could really cause some damage on this project. I don't believe I have the trouble shooting skills to accomplish this repair, but I can get the door skin off in 10 minutes now. I don't quite easy so after I reassembled the door I went after the locking mechanism again with the same results.
Thanks much,
Bill
