Dirty rear wheels
 

Hi! Did a search on this but didn't find an answer. My girlfriends '08 C300's rear wheels get way dirtier than the front from brake dust. I was wondering if this is a common occurrence on thses cars. I know the front brakes do most of the stopping on all cars, and for this reason the front wheels are always way dirtier way quicker than the rear. The car has less than 30,000 on it and is well maintained. I'm just curious!

your right, the front wheels usually do get dirtier than the rear wheels. maybe your car has some differnt brake pads on the rear? or differnt rotors. or maybe its something other than brake dust? Tire shine, armor all.

This is definitely brake dust. The front rotors are drilled and rear are not. My girl says it's always been this way, so I have to assume she is correct :). The brakes have not been done she tells me.....but......she does have aftermarket wheels and tires on it. They are 18" and tire size is the same front and rear. 225/40/18. Her stock wheels were 17s w 225 & 245 tires. The offset may be a little different, bringing the rims outward a little, but there is no rubbing what so ever. Kinda weird. Car stops fine too. No sounds or scrapping.

I was thinking this may just be a characteristic of this model Mercedes.

ive never really took notice to that issue on the C class, or any Benz. its possible that it is getting dirtier. probably normal.

Buy Akebono Euro's. No more brake dust. Stopping ability same as stock.

I have a 2008 C300 Sport and I have also noticed that the rear wheels get alot more brake dust/dirt on them than the front wheels.

I have never had any brake work done either and my tires and wheels are original equiptment.

Maybe it has something to do with the front rotors being drilled and the rear ones not being drilled?

I have an early production 2008 C300. This is a known problem for the original brake pads. MB finally admitted the problem and would replace the pads if you screamed loud enough and the car was less than a year old or had fewer than 10,000 miles on it. By the time they issued the bulletin, it was too late for me....which is to say that I have to deal with the brake dust. I do have to say that 55,000 miles, it has lessened.
