I was at a dealer today checking out a 03 c230 Kompressor sedan. and i though they came in 6 speed. but this one was auto. Was it ever an option on them?

damn if you find a 6 speed kompressor, buy it
i'd much rather have a 6 speed than my auto

i have the 6 speed version its all right..... the clutch kinda sux its wicked light....

 

well 6 speds are fun and the 6th gear in your 4cy is for highway cruising and insurance i feel the auto is better.
yes it has its share of quirks but with a carbon driveshaft and some urethane bushings u wouldnt belive her power.
i stole the idea from the mitsubishi montero which came w a carbon fiber drive shaft and went with it from there.

autos have better holding power and their torque multiplication can be adjusted up or down for better response thru the stator and even the stall converter. its really easier to pull power out of an auto than the stick its just not many people know alot in detail about tranny's haha trannsmissions-

aero works in sweden makes new stators with a fin design that improves mercedes transmissions responses gotta dig for this info guys !!

 

We have the 04 Kompressor with the auto and love it.

 

yeah the auto stick can be improved as well. find the wiring diagram on all data or mitchell print it out and tace the relay for your +/- gear selection. do an ohm test and a voltage drop on each selection and change the resistance in ohms +/- depending oh quickly or how slowly u want the car to shift. also bypasses the holds on final drive gears in D.

 

I've not tried a modern MB manual transmission, but I'm not impressed with what I've read about their feel on all the web sources I've found. I just got a C320 Coupe with the automatic, and -being a manual driver for more than thirty years (and yes, I double-clutch all my downshifts)- I have to say the MB automatic is very impressive. Remarkably smooth shifts, invisible downshifts when asked, and overall excellent response. And no clutch to replace. So, just another opinion to toss in your considerations.
