Car Keys
Hi,
I am new to mercs, I bought C 240 with 40 K miles on it, the thing is beauty. Now the problem is dealer gave me only one key saying he does not have the spare one from the person who trade it in. From where do I order or get new keys, And how much would it cost. Are the new keys issued work properly. Is there are problem with security ? regards |
RE: Car Keys
I had to get a spare made when I got my C240 also.
You have to go through the dealership, and it cost me: $140 Like $117 for the key, $23 to program it or something like that. |
RE: Car Keys
have the other missing key revoked too (disable).

RE: Car Keys
how do they disable the missing one... don't they all have the same code???

ORIGINAL: Citrus Green how do they disable the missing one... don't they all have the same code??? |
RE: Car Keys
hmm... so u get 2 keys with 2 different codes??? thats strange...
When u buy a new key they say u have to leave it in the switch to be coded... which code is gonna be programmed |
RE: Car Keys
THE KEY IS CHANGING THE CODE RANDOMLY EVERYTIME YOU USE IT. IT MUST MATCH WITH THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE...OR ELSE IT WON'T START.
THE CODE IS 12 DIGITS EG: KEY = 4759357595048 ECU = 4759357595048 |
RE: Car Keys
oh ok... That makes sense... thanx...
Another question plz... do i have to order the key from the same dealer the car was bought from... meaning that the dealer in my country charges a hell of a $$$ .. so i checked the neighbouring countries and price was much much less.. is it possible to order it from there?? And since they have to check the car registration which shows its from a different dealer, r they gonna accept that??? Thanx again |
RE: Car Keys
you could possibly get it from another dealer? but i beleive a dealer has to program it to your car so you may need to take it in, and yea any dealer shold do it
