Car is a 2008 C350.

My wife and I were looking at locations for my daughters 1st birthday. After stopping at the gas station to get a couple waters (temperature was 102 F) I put the key in the ignition and turned and all I heard was 4 very subtle click sounds....I tried a couple more times and nothing.

My battery appeared to be working just fine, lights, radio, key fob (and backup key fob) were all working. Nonetheless, I asked a local for a jump start and that did not help.

Called Triple AAA to get a tow. I had to force the car into neutral, then turned the steering wheel to get the car on the tows ramp (No issues doing that).

The car was stored overnight in a parking garage and upon entering the next morning the car was unlocked and completely dead. I then called Triple AAA for a tow to get it out to a mechanic (since the ****ty HOA we live in will sue/fine us if we park a inoperable car in our parking spot).

I took it to the mechanic and they're assessment is that my Steering Lock failed and needs to be replaced as well as my ignition switch.

They quoted me at $3,000. I have requested the diagnostics and have a copy as well as the quote they provided.

Has this happened to anyone with a C-Class??? ANy help would be GREATLY appreciated as I feel the mechanic shop is trying to rip me off.

Damn, that's really unlucky especially as you were on a pleasant trip with your daughter.
I don't know much of C-class personally, but a friend of mine that works at DSRLeasing owns one, I'll try to ask him. Good luck!
