C320 Traction Control
Guys,
Here is the problem...
I bought a used c320 2001 in January 2005. Soon after that it started showing ESP malfunction(visit workshop) b.s. frequently. Had one jerk ckeck it. Once he disconnected cord from lateral acceleration sensor the message comes up everytime I start the engine. Sensors seem to be OK. Yesterday had my car checked by an authorized diller, they said that the control unit was dead, tested & found that 1v supplied by control unit when 4.75 - 5.25 should have been. The part cost is $935, labor is 1h. Do you guys think that there is no other way to fix it for less? Is there such a part that is used, taken from another car, would it fit? Is there any way to prevent that message from appearing?
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks for the response.
what was the fault code they say?
46690 esp control unit internal fault, installed esp lateral accel. sensor provided by client, code still present. test & found less than 1v supplied by control unit (4.75 - 5.25V) - the document they gave says.
does the BAS and ABS lamp come on as well?
Those are ok.
Thanks a lot,
Mike

there was a service information about the faulty ESP control module...that's right. i have replaced quite a lot already.
but there is also a chance that the wiring connector on the control unit was corroded by water contamination as in some cases i did.
best way to check is they slap in a new control module and see if the problem disappear. if then, just replace it. if not...then you just got wiring problem.
