Default c280 sudden onset jerky shift

Hi, I'm driving a 1996 model c280 with 150000km (about 90000mi) on the clock

Since yesterday the car displayed slightly jerky shift. It is not bad but definately
not as smooth as it used to be. Present on both upshift and downshift.
What bothers me is the sudden onset of the problem... As if something broke etc.

How do I start sorting out the problem? I see no dipstick for transmission oil level...

Thanks
MDH

You need to change your transmission fluid and hope that metal filings don't come out with the used fluid.
I'm not sure when MB decided to seal the transmission and claim that their A/T fluid was good for the life of the car-but they did by '99 on the 722.606 tranny that I have. Long story short, everybody I know, from owners on forums to MB techs suggest A/T fluid change every 30K-60K mi. [sm=trust_me.gif]

BTW, there is no dip stick, per se. When you have the fluid changed, the mechanic uses a tool that is essentially a dip stick to check the fluid level at a specified temperature. However, then it is removed and the fill tube is capped.

Still having the above problem of gearshift which 'surge' on upshift and 'rough'
downshifts.

I've had the transmission fluid changed without success...
the shift is also inconsistent: Sometimes pretty smooth at other
times rough...

The local MB dealer tells me it is the 'pressure control regulator...'
It will cost about $1500 (equivalent) to fix
(that is, if it really is the problem!)

The MB mechanic actually recommended leaving the
car as it is, but it is really annoying!

Is it a good idea to try to get this pressure control unit changed?
Could this indeed be the explaination for the problem???
(apparently the 'computer' to which they plug the car into shows
no faults...)

Can you expect automatic transmission to become 'rough' as the
car ages?

Thanks!
