C280: backup lights not working

on our 1997 MB C280. Checked all the bulbs and fuses but all are fine. Is there anything else I should check?

trace the signal from transmission range recognition switch or exterior lamp monitoring module or starter lockout / backup lamp switch or lower control field control module.

stating your VIN can make it easier for me to tell you directly for i have to know the system your car uses.
