C240 oil change question
 

I'll be doing an oil change on my 03 C240. Should I use 0W40 or 5w40 syn. mobile1?

Shouldn't matter......either one will work.
If you lived at the North Pole, I might lean towards the 0-40, but I'm guessing you don't.;)

Either one will flow well at low temps and both are 40wt on the high end. How cold does it get where you live? In a previous 300E I ran the 0W 40 and had no problems. I live in Northeastern Pa.[/align][/align]Regards,[/align][/align]Will[/align][/align]P.S. is your 240 a 4matic?[/align]

it's not a 4matic. I live in CA, so it does get too cold here. I read posts where people had use 0w40 and 5w40, so I want to clarify what I should put in the car. Thanks.

Use Fully Synthetic Oil but the weight is determined by the lowest/highest temperature
you will be experiencing after the Oil Change

Zero weight? No, that's for sub zero

I am doing mine tomorrow, we have a little cold here, some hot in the next 30 days.
So I upgraded it to 10W40 as per the MB Bulletin I have in my Owners Wallet.
6.1 Quarts.

Mercedes recommends 0W40 mobil 1for gas engines.

Two f0llow up questions, I too have a 03 C240 and have in the past done all my oil changes on previous vehicles.

Question 1 Since we are using fully synthetic oil it would appear that oil change intervals are every 10,000 miles, is this correct??

Question I have not been under the car yet and do not own a suction device to pull it from the top end of the motor, how hard is the drain plug to get to??

with small hex-head screws here and there. Just jack the car up high enough to work under there, and
remove enough of them to access the drain plug. Remember not to do that until you're sure you can get
to the oil filter canister in the engine compartment! The oil plug may have a copper washer on it. You can
replace it or re-use it, it works both ways. I've never had a leak reusing it. As far as the oil change interval
goes, if I comment on that now it will start WWIII. Everybody has an opinion on this one, for sure. Even me!;)

I talked to Oreily's guys today and to my surprise they said their computer calls for 6.6 quarts of oil for the mercedes. Is this correct? Above I see that it should take 6.1 quarts. also this car does not come with a dipstick. I have to electronically check the oil level which sucks. I am an old fashioned guy.. I put about 6 quarts and then start the engine let it run for 5 minutes leave it settle and check again if I need to add more oil I do.

if you are buying parts from Oreily's be careful and make sure you buy a quality filter that is fleece, especially if you are planning on going 10k or so miles between oil changes. I always use a mann fleece filter part number 000 180 26 09, and 5-40 synthetic.
