C230 rear tires: excessive wear

I have replace the rear tires on my C230 Kompressor five times in the last 15 months. The factory tires were replaced at 10k mi. The Michelins lasted 4K. The Kumhos lasted about 9-10K. The BFGs lasted about 5K. Now I'm trying Generals. The Michelins on the front are holding up just fine. The service manager at Mercedes of Millinia in Orlando told us that this is a normal characteristic of a Mercedes. I have asked other Mercedes owners and they said their tires do not wear pre-maturely. Is this normal or should I take the car back to another dealer for a sencond opinion?

That depends on how they are wearing. Are they wearingout evenly or are you wearing out the outer or inner edge only?

The answer may be to get harder tires - not high performance tires. The harder rubber may last longer for you.

Just FYI, my Michelins (OE) look fine at 14 months and 7000 miles. No sign of wear.

Tire pressure is checked regularly and they wear even side to side, and those milages are from tits on the treads to complete slicks with the tail end of the car all over the road on a wet road. The tires are all 245/40ZR-17. I don't think Discount Tire has a harder tire in that size. The tire tech said I'm accelerating too fast. I don't know.

The dealer told you that you were accelerating too fast??????[:-]Unless your spinning em up every time you accelerate maybe that dude should stop drinking laundry detergent for breakfast.[X(]Have you looked into Bridgestones? The RE750 is a good tire and is rated at 30-50K miles if I recall correctly. They're nice tires, have really low road noise and work well in pretty much any weather condition. I think they run about $205/tire but are well worth it. I know alot of people swear by the Michelins but they're just too sticky and wear too quickly. Give the Bridgestones a look.

I have nearly 23k miles on my stock Michelins. Considering how weak these cars are I have a really hard time believing you can be burning through a set in less than 10k miles. Something must be wrong. I've actually owned a car that averaged 5k miles from a rear set of tires. It had nearly 900 rwhp though.

I looked at my rears today. They look like new, very deep tread remaining after 7k miles.
