c230 kompressor Fog Light battery alternator light come on please help

I am new to this forum. I have an issue looking for possible remedies. Car is a 2003 c230 kompressor 1.8 T. I just replaced alternator brand new. Car runs fine. I had a fog light out on passenger side other day so I replaced both bulbs with direct replacemnts and they work just fine. Issue is when I activate the fog lights within a few seconds I get a red alternator battery light warning. So I turned the fog lights off, then turn off the car wait a few seconds then I restart the car except this time I turned the light dial to the auto setting, so far no issues doing that option an no light comes on about the battery or alternator. I am trying to find out why turning on the fog lights is causing this warning to appear? Please help. The chef.
