I am considering purchasing a very nice but older 1997 MB C230. The vehicle has 139,000 miles on it, but appears to be in great shape. It runs and drives nicely. The car dealer just had it checked out by a reputable repair shop and the vehicle was given a clean bill of health.

Having never owned a Mercedes, I have two concerns:

- What kind of longevity can I reasonably expect from a car with this many miles?

- Everyone seems to be scared of MB repair costs. Should I be?

Well your interested in purchasing a MB. Make sure the car has been properly maintained. oil changes that were done regularly are to your advantage. Make sure it has had all the service done to it with recipts if possible. Make sure exhaust is ok and also check the title for a clear title. If it's resonable priced for the miliage buy it. If you go to a dealer your going to pay a lot. Oil chnage tranny flush and sparkplugs run $700 from the dealer. If you find a good indep shop that works on imports or primarily MB then go to him. Chances are you will find you get a better service. What state are you located in? I may know some import mechanics in your area.

Thanks for the feedback. We had a local MB shop check out the vehicle and we did buy the car. We are located in north Alabama. The car is great. So far, so good...
