99 C250TD Hot and Cold Heater Problems.

Ive a 99 C250TD estate that has problems with its zoned temp control. If driver side is set anywhere from warm to cold, after 5 minutes the passenger side blows very hot regardless of its individual setting. Put the driver side on hot and the passenger control then functions as normal?!

Does anyone know what the problem is?
