We have a 1997 c280 Sport we're taking to the shop as it has an oil leak. I noticed that the leak is coming from the right front of the engine. When we take the car for a long drive we can see smoke coming out of the engine. I guess that's oil coming in contact with the exhaust. It may be the head gasket or it maybe something else. I'm hoping it's something else. Is this easy to diagnose? Is this oil leak common with this model?

 

possible upper front cover- but more than likely a head gasket leak. the head gasket leak is common on those motors.

 

Thanks, Tric1. We had the upper front cover done but was still leaking so we had to have the head gasket done too. I guess gone are the days (up to the 70's) when MB made really tight engines...
