Default 2006 c230 sport auto transmission grinding

Hi folks,

i am new to these forums and I could not find anything about my issue, so forgive me if I missed it.

Here re is my Issue.

I live in Arizona (extreme hot weather) took the car on the long trip, on the way home (freeway) uphill a bit jerky at one point (onc
then when I got into town 1 mile from home after stopping at the light i heard a loud grinding noise coming from automatic gearbox vicinity almost like I had piece of metal stuck under my car and hitting the drive shaft type of grind. I immediately pulled over then I heard like a grind with the clunk and the noise went away. Next day I drove to work, about 10 min from home at the light at idle I heard the clink and grinding came back, since I was in the middle of the intersection I lightly accelerated to pull over and the noise went away. I processed driving to work, freeway and highway the car shifted fine but when I came to a stop as car downshifted to 1or second gear the grind came back. I pulled over and had car towed home.
Background, I am well versed machanic and know ALOT about cars, but I am stumped.

I lifted the car, have shop at home as well
looked for obvious things making sure nothing was loose, everything seems in place, but when I start the car at idle the light grind like brakes after rain that set overnight can be heard inside the car but not as much on the outside. When the car is in park grid does not go away, soon as you put it in drive sycronisers engage and noise goes away until the car downshift as you come to a stop I thought maybe the fluid is low, but it seems to be fine. Suggestion anyone or maybe it happened with you or you heard of it or point me to the right thread.

Hello and welcome to the forum! Were you able to pull any codes? I'm also attaching a helpful link to our site's DIY tech articles on the W203 platform.

Thumbs up

Thank you for your reply, no codes stored at all. It seems as it might be conducting plate but it would throw a code. I will check out your link you sent me.
