2003 C230 Oil Change?
Hi all!

Just bought my first Mercedes and wanted to change the oil, but I can't find the filter. The parts guy said it's on top of the engine, but I can't find it. Any help would be great! Thanks!

Also, where is the drain plug? I removed the plastic covers and I can see the oil pan, but it is covered by some kind of cardboard/fiberboard insulator that looks like it can only be removed by ripping it off. Anyone please! I think Mercedes just wants you to have to take it in for that $80 oil change.

The filter is an element type filter. It's located under a black cap behind your power steering pump. You'll need a special wrench to remove it of which you can get from www.buymbparts.com really cheap. The drain plug is under the insulator on the left side of the oil pan.
why don't you take a picture of it and send it to me because you have my colleage and I wondering exactly what your talking about. Keep in mind that most, if not all dealers use a liquivac that sucks the oil out from the dipstick tube so they never get under the car to change your oil to begin with. Send me a picture jetforeman@bellsouth.net

If you are in the U.S. and the car is still under warranty then you have free scheduled maintenece. (services called by the FSS system, approximately every 10,000miles)

turn key to 1 position. hit the arrow button to display service wrench. Hold the odo reset button for 4 seconds. screen will prompt you if u want to reset hit reset button once more.

Good luck,
